Developed in the late 19th century, the Old Fashioned is one of the oldest recorded cocktail recipes in the history of mixed drinks. Our twist on this classic cocktail features Brown Butter Washed Bull Run Bourbon. This adds a soft layer of nutty texture to the drink. Make sure that you're following Rough Cut Soap Co. on Instagram as they launch their new soap line, The Cocktail Collection. To celebrate we'll be posting some Rough Cut x Bull Run inspired cocktails recipes all week. You can even try a few of them at Carlton Ladies Night this Thursday! Beautiful soaps, delicious cocktails, sounds like "Happy Hour In The Shower" to us! Cheers!
Bull Run Brown Butter Bourbon Old Fashioned
Ingredients - 2 oz Brown Butter Washed Bull Run Bourbon* - 1 dropperful Free Wild She x Bull Run Barrel Aged Aromatic Bitters - ¼ oz Maple Sugar Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar to water, can sub brown sugar: medium heat in a saucepan just to dissolve) - 3 Orange Peels - A couple Luxardo maraschino cherries
Directions - In a rocks glass, muddle the bitters, maple sugar syrup, one orange peel, and one cherry. - Add Bourbon and 1 large ice cube, stir until well-chilled. - Garnish with an orange peel “rose” by rolling 2 peels with a Luxardo maraschino cherry inside.
*Brown Butter Washed Bull Run Bourbon: Slowly brown ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick) in a saucepan until well toasted and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Pour a 750ml bottle of Bull Run Bourbon into a container and gently stir in the brown butter. Leave the mixture uncovered until completely cool and butter has become firm and risen to the top of the container. Freeze the mixture, skim off the solids then strain through a cheesecloth to remove all solids. Cover with lid, label, and date. The bourbon will keep for a few weeks.
