The Mint Julep

If you’ve ever been to a Kentucky Derby party, you might be familiar with today’s Rough Cut Soap Co. highlight, the Mint Julep. Making its humble beginning as a medicinal concoction used to settle the stomach, this libation features a healthy amount of mint, sugar, and in our recipe’s case, Bull Run Barrel Strength Bourbon. It’s also the 5th of 6 handcrafted artisan soaps that make up Rough Cut Soap’s “The Cocktail Collection”. Head over to their page to find out more about what fantastic ingredients go into their take on the Mint Julep. Whether you’re looking for a refreshMINT for your insides or on your outside, #RoughCutxBullRun has just the thing! Cheers!

Mint Julep

Ingredients - 2 oz Bull Run Barrel Strength Bourbon - 8 mint leaves - ¼ oz Maple Sugar Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar to water, can use brown sugar: medium heat in a saucepan just to dissolve) - Garnish: mint sprig & Angostura bitters (optional)

Directions - In a Julep cup or rocket glass, lightly muddle the mint leaves in the simple syrup. - Add Bull Run Barrel Strength Bourbon then pack the glass tightly with crushed ice. - Stir until the cup is frosted on the outside. - Top with more crushed ice to form an ice dome (think snow cone!) and garnish with a mint sprig and a few drops of bitters (optional). Firmly slap the mint on the back of your hand before garnishing to release the oils and make the mint more aromatic.
